There are a couple of quick maintenance checks that should also be performed regularly simply to make sure that your instrument is in working order.
1. Check that the bottom pole (that is inserted into the base), is not wobbly or loose.
This section of pole bears the brunt of the weight from the microscope and so it is essential that it is regularly checked and if needed, tightened.
If tightening is needed, do not over tighten by using a tool etc., this should just be tightened by hand.
2. Check the microscope’s colour lens slider.
If the slider is either too stiff or too loose unscrew and separate the ball bearing, spring and screw and inspect the condition of the spring.
If necessary replace. See figures 7 – 11 below for visual reference.
