Inclusions:
Portable Oxygen concentrators, often referred to as POC are devices used to provide oxygen therapy to patients. These patients require greater oxygen concentrations than normal air. Similar to home oxygen concentrators (OC), portable oxygen concentrators are smaller in size, portable & lighter.
CASA guidelines state not to exceed 5kg weight and refer to individual airlines
1. Patient MUST have medical clearance to be fit to fly
2. Patient MUST have flow rate required determined by Medical Practitioner
3. Dangerous Goods approval number must be obtained before entering aircraft (can be obtained at checkin verbally by checkin staff after phoning DG Co-Ordinator OR contact email dg@qantas.com.au well before travel date- search Dangerous Goods Qantas Approval online)
4. Batteries must not exceed 160watt/hours – Batteries over 100watt/hours need to have DG Clearance and must be carried in passenger cabins (overhead locker, etc)

Intelligent
The Kingon P2 will sense patient breathing from cannula. If patient is not yet breathing through the cannula, the Kingon P2 will begin to pulse automatically about once every 3 seconds. As soon as patient begins breathing through the cannula, the device will begin delivering pulses synchronised with patient breathing. As patient’s breathing rate changes, the Kingon P2 will sense these changes and adjust the amount of oxygen at next inhale.

I learned that the Kingon is the lightest weight portable oxygen concentrator approved by both the FDA and FCC. This meant that I could use it on an airplane. Prior to getting this unit I was instrumental to take at least SIX bottles of oxygen with me to ensure I didn’t run out. In other words, I would constantly have to walk back to our vehicle and switch tanks. Instead I was able to take my Kingon, power cords, and extra battery to meet my needs. Because you are able to use the Kingon even as it charges I kept mine plugged into the cigarette lighter of our vehicle e route to the festivities. This meant that my unit was fully charged when we arrived at the venue. I was receiving such a great supply of oxygen that I didn’t rush to reconnect to my home unit as I sat visiting with my family. Suddenly my son spoke up saying he thought that my colouring was better and I was breathing easier on my portable unit than when I used the big concentrator. The oxygen from my new Kingon seem more pure and I found that I didn’t feel as short of breath. If you depend on a machine like I do you understand just what a blessing this is! I no longer have to worry about losing my independence because the Kingon will allow me to remain active as well as independent. If you are considering obtaining a portable device be sure to check this one out!
